Ayni

In Quechua, “AYNI” means sacred reciprocity—the understanding that the universe seeks balance, that what we receive must eventually be given back. You’ve offered us ceremony without ritual, healing without fixing, wisdom without judgment. You’ve shown us what it means to hold paradox: strength and softness, discipline and surrender, solitude and deep connection. For thirty years you poured your artistry into other people’s stories. Now you’re writing your own, and we wanted to be part of that story—not as witnesses from the sidelines, but as participants in the ayni. This is what you’ve given us, reflected back: proof that you were here, that you matter, that you are loved.

Cy, this is for you – Listen Here

For someone who’s spent 30 years shaping sound, you’ve always known when to let the silence speak. These memories aren’t narrated—they just exist, like the spaces between notes that make the music matter. Your friends gathered these moments because some connections can’t be written down. They’re felt, like the resonance that lingers after the sound has stopped.

After 30 years in Los Angeles, you returned to France—a tender, courageous transition that not everyone saw up close. But we see you. This is your first birthday home, and we wanted you to feel held by your community, to know you’re not alone in this new chapter. From Hollywood soundstages to Rouen streets, from recording studios to shamanic circles, from engineer to director—these images capture you mid-journey: the artist becoming the director, the healer becoming whole, the friend who showed us what presence really means. This is our love letter, in the only language that felt honest enough—your own: images, sound, and the raw truth of moments shared.

Message & Video from Gia & Beppe

What can we say about Cy — and to Cy — on his birthday?
People are brought together for a reason. And our dear mutual friend Julien had an instinct to make that happen. When you sent us that first video introducing yourself, your humour, your sense of spontaneity and adventure shined brightly, and we already thought, “This would be a really great person to connect with.” Being part of a day of great conversation and adventure with Beppe and Claire along for the ride was marvellous. Time passed so quickly as we chatted like old friends, first at the thermal spa where we met up and, later, over pizza and conversation in our little city. These are moments you remember and we felt a kinship blossom. We want to wish you a very first year back in France after living many years abroad. In the spirit of celebration, we send you a big birthday cheer and hurrah. And we look forward to the next time we meet up in person for another spontaneous adventure.
Un forte abbraccio, Gia + Beppe

Poem for Cy

Filling my inner eyes, my giddy sighs with You
the blue of your eyes and your bashful smiles.

Threading the silver line of this meandering tenderness
I’ve been nursing all day
through to your ears
to sing of Love!

The kind that needs no action verbs,
needs nothing and lots of it.
The kind that wants for nothing
save to Be and Continue.
The kind Hafiz gets drunk on and calls out to Beloved.
The kind that inspires the white of your eyes to come out and play.

I feel so brave today.
Let’s churn our insides out and baffle at our beauty.
Let us dare.

Cy, wherever you are and whoever you may be with, may this be a wonderful birthday. There seems to be no photographic evidence of the birthday party we shared with Kelly Layne at Fais Do Do. But hopefully all these other photos bring enough smiles to make up for that missing evening. Sending lots of love across the ocean to you.

From Our Hearts to Yours

52 trips around the sun, and look at all the people you’ve collected along the way. Let’s be honest—you’re not like everyone else. You’re the Hollywood French fellow. You practice aikido and studies with shamans. You can geek out about sound design and also sit in ceremony in the desert. You’re deeply serious and completely ridiculous, often in the same conversation. And we love that about you.

You’ve hiked deserts & mountains, made films, crossed oceans, and somehow still found time to show up as yourself—brilliant, messy, funny, real. These photos are proof: you’ve lived a big, beautiful, ridiculous, meaningful life. They’re from all the people whose lives are better because you’re exactly who you are. No filter. No performance. Just Cy.

Happy 52nd birthday. Here’s to the next adventure. Keep being weird. We need it. ✨️🎂✨
